In September, 1980, the forces of Saddam Hussein invaded neighboring Iran, sparking the 20th centuries longest continuous conventional conflict. Lasting until 1988, the First Persian Gulf War resulted in perhaps 1.5 million killed and wounded Iraqis and Iranians, and over a trillion dollars in estimated material losses. The aftermath left deep wounds in the Iranian psyche and continues to affect Tehran's behavior. This class examines this important event, from a historical perspective and as a way to understand current Iranian polices.

The many decisions that one must make in the course of an illness or other physical crisis are often encountered at moments of stress, confusion, or despair. Deciding in advance the particulars of your medical care, especially for end-of-life situations, relieves you and your loved ones of having to do so without time to reflect on the choices. An advanced directive is a document that specifies how much and what kind of intervention you would like in a situation when your health is compromised or declining. No Cost.
